Industrial Style

The Industrial Style uses industrial motifs and a design language inspired by industry and craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from factories and warehouses. When designing rooms, metallic colors and concrete aesthetics are preferred. Walls in raw concrete, unplastered brick walls, or walls that look as if the plaster has long fallen off are an absolute must here. Large glass windows with metal frames, as found in studios or workshops, exposed steel beams and raw wooden beams, metal pipes, and stainless steel emphasize the industrial look.

Raw materials and imperfect surfaces are essential features of industrial spaces; smooth and polished elements are not used.
For flooring, concrete screeds or real reclaimed wood and wood-look floors are suitable.
The industrial color scheme includes rather neutral colors in light earthy and beige tones. Matte black, grays, and white are used to create contrasts. Intense color areas in umber, rust-red, and dark blue can complement the design.

The furniture also takes cues from industrial production, with a lot of steel, iron, leather, and reclaimed wood. Visible fittings, gears, wrought-iron frames, dining tables with heavy metal frames or on wheels, and lamps without lampshades are examples of elements to conjure up an industrial feel in a room. Seating often appears heavy and worn with a used look; a leather sofa or individual armchairs, like from a factory boss's office, or an elegant vintage Chesterfield sofa also fit well with the factory style. Seating groups with a live-edge table and simple chairs are perfect for the dining area.

The epitome of the Industrial Style is the industrial loft, which looks as if production has just moved out and the rooms have been quickly converted for residential use. The rooms themselves are usually open and high, divided by individual pieces of furniture. Living and dining areas and the kitchen are often integrated into one unit and separated only by optical room dividers and shelves. Lighting with vintage lamps or modern luminaires and spotlights, pendant lights with metal shades, or bare light bulbs without lampshades emphasize the industrial look.
