Live edge table

A live edge table is a table with one or more edges crafted as a live edge. A live edge refers to the table edge that follows the natural growth form of the tree. Usually, the longer table edges are made as live edges to enhance the visual impression.

When crafting the tabletop, the bark is usually removed, and the outer edge is left in the natural wavy state of the tree's growth – just as the tree grew lengthwise. To compensate for excessive unevenness, the outer edges are usually re-milled and sanded to match the growth form.
Normally, the typical live edge is left on the long sides of the tables, while the end faces are worked straight. However, there are also live edge tables with a live edge running all around.
Due to the different growth of each tree, every live edge table has a unique shape, grain, and color, making it a true one-of-a-kind.

The most common type of live edge table is the dining table, but you can also find coffee tables, desks, conference tables, and other tables with live edges. It's also possible to use live edge planks for other furniture pieces like shelves, cabinets, and dressers.
For the tabletop of a live edge table, besides the type of wood and grain, the thickness is also a criterion. The thicker the tabletop, the more prominent the live edge appears.
However, you must then consider the weight of the table. A large table with a thick tabletop can easily weigh over 100 kg – so if the table needs to be moved, it's not entirely straightforward.
